With the massive War Sails expansion recently dropping, there has never been a better time to break the rules. Here is your ultimate guide to enabling and using cheats in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord for 2026.
Step 1: How to Enable Cheat Mode
Before you can start raining fire on your enemies (metaphorically), you have to flip a switch in the game's files. It’s a simple edit:
- Navigate to your PC's Documents folder:
Documents > Mount and Blade II Bannerlord > engine_config.txt - Open the file with Notepad.
- Find the line that says:
cheat_mode = 0. - Change it to:
cheat_mode = 1. - Save the file and launch the game.
Note: You don't usually need to start a new campaign for this to work, but it’s always a good idea to keep a backup save just in case!
Step 2: Hotkey Cheats (Combat & Map)
Once cheat mode is active, you don't even need to type anything for these. Just press the following combinations while in a battle or on the world map:

Step 3: Infinite Items and Units
This is the "god mode" for logistics. With cheat mode on:
- The Infinite Armory: Open your Inventory. On the left side, you will see every single item in the game. Simply click the arrow to move a legendary sword or a stack of grain into your bag.
- The Instant Army: Open your Party screen. Every unit type in the game—from the lowliest recruit to the elite Khan's Guard—is listed on the left. Click them to add them to your warband for free.
Step 4: Using the Developer Console
For specific tweaks like adding gold or leveling up, you’ll need the console. Press Alt + ~ (tilde) to open it.
Important: These commands are case-sensitive.
